Hail to the Lord’s anointed, great David’s greater Son!
Hail, in the time appointed, his reign on earth begun!
He comes to break oppression, to set the captive free,
to take away transgression, and rule in equity.
He shall pour down his blessings upon the barren earth;
faith, hope, and love together before him spring to birth.
Upon the mountains with him shall peace and gladness go;
and righteousness, in fountains, from hill to valley flow.
He comes with consolation to those who suffer wrong;
and for the poor and needy, the courage to be strong;
he offers songs for sighing, turns darkness into light,
for souls, condemned and dying, are precious in his sight.
Kings shall fall down before him, their royal tribute bring;
all nations shall adore him, his praise all people sing.
